This Sunday is Mother's Day and Facebook, Twitter and Instagram feeds will be full of pictures of smiling moms and their kids as they celebrate this special day. Let's face it, moms are special and we love to show how much we love her with breakfast in bed, a bouquet of flowers and maybe a trip to the spa for a pedicure.
Your mom is a hero in every sense of the word and now you have a chance to show the world. The Northwest Mutual Foundation is celebrating all hero moms through their #MyHeroMom social media campaign. From now until May 13th include the #MyHeroMom hashtag on a photo you upload to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter of you and your mom, sister, aunt or other symbolic mother figure and Northwest Mutual will donate $5 to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (up to $50,000).
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation was created by Alexandra "Alex" Scott who, just before her first birthday, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a type of childhood cancer. After several different treatments with varying degrees of success (and failure) Alex received a stem-cell transplant. Upon leaving the hospital she said she wanted to open a lemonade stand in order to raise money to give to the doctors to "help other kids, like they helped me.".
So at only four years old, with the help of her brother, she raised $2000 on the lemonade stand's opening day.
Sadly, Alex passed away at tender age of eight but not before raising over $1 million to help find a cure for the disease that took her precious, young life. She is truly a hero.
This hashtag campaign is an incredible opportunity to not only celebrate your mom this Mother's Day but to help find a cure for childhood cancer. Childhood cancer is the number one leading cause of death by disease in children under 15 in the U.S. and research is vastly underfunded. We can all agree, no mother should ever have to lose a child.
We at Staffing Plus hope you'll join us in this important campaign and tag those pictures (#MyHeroMom) for Alex and all of the hero moms around the world as we strengthen the fight against childhood cancer. And don't forget to "like", "share" and "retweet" everyone else's hero pictures!
