Now that Season 4 of Game of Thrones is out, fans are all waiting anxiously to see what’s going to happen to some of their favorite characters. Has the unholy pairing of Jaime and Cersei been broken up? Will another Stark lose his or her life in the battle against the Lannisters? How long until Daenerys’ dragons are old enough to help her get back her rightful place on the throne of King’s Landing? Whether you are already working or still looking for a temp or perm work, there are, surprisingly enough, quite a few things you can learn from Game of Thrones about advancing in your career.
Women in Male-Dominated Professions
First of all, you may have noticed that despite the fact that this show is set in medieval times, there are many powerful women. The most striking example of one is Daenerys Targaryen, everyone’s favorite character on Game of Thrones. When the show started, Daenerys was being terrorized by her brother and had no say in what happened to her. However, as the show went along, she gained the love of her husband and his tribe, realized that she had the power to resist heat and fire and hatched the three dragon eggs in her possession. She became the mother of dragons and began travelling back to Westeros, gaining an army and good generals along the way. So if you are a woman in a male-dominated profession, don’t despair! You can learn from Daenerys to find your inner strength and get ahead in your career.
Leadership in the Workplace
Another thing we often see in Game of Thrones is that people follow goodness. Ned Stark was a good man and even though he was executed by the bad guys, this didn’t stop people from recognizing that he was honest and trustworthy. This is why the clans in the north came together under the banner of his son, Robb Stark, who possessed many of the same qualities as Ned Stark. They were both honest, brave men who suffered tragic fates. But if the ratings of the show are anything to go by, all the viewers are going to miss them. From this, you can learn that being good to your co-workers will help you to become a leader in the workplace.
