No matter how much we have, it is easy to get caught-up in wanting something more. Whether it is a new car, nicer clothing, or that awesome new electronic device our friend just got, it is easy to feel like we need something more. Yet, it is important to simply be grateful for what we already have. Recently, Amanda Mary Perez, an at-home nurse was reminded of this.
Perez said she was feeling upset over not having all the material possessions she wanted. Then one of her clients asked her to clean his fridge.
When she opened the fridge, she was surprised to find it basically empty. When she questioned the man about the situation, he admitted he was only able to buy food when he could afford it. The man's admission made Perez cry. In a Facebook post, she later said:
All of the sudden I realized how my needs are wants and his wants are needs. You have to eat to live.
While some people might have felt sorry for the man's situation and simply went home, maybe feeling a little more grateful for their current situation, Perez did more than just feel sorry for the man and go on with her life. The woman, who admits she is not rich by any standards, said she could not go home knowing the state of her client's fridge. Instead, after her shift, she used her income tax refund money to buy as much as she could to fill the man's fridge.
