5 Ways Exercise is Vital to Your Career

Posted by Brian Spence on Mar 27, 2019 8:00:00 AM

Career Advice, Productivity, ExerciseWork and working out are not often included in the same sentence. Exercise and career are usually thought of as separate activities. Physical fitness, however, can play an important role in job achievement. Here are five reasons why exercise is integral to a successful career.

Work Attendance

It is difficult to be successful in your career if you miss a lot of time to illness. How can you be productive when you are sick at home? Researchers have linked physical activity to a reduction in absences due to illness. The more you exercise, the less likely that you will use up your sick leave.

Cognitive Performance

Exercise isn't just great for your body, it helps your mind function more effectively. Physical activity has been shown to increase attention and help process information more efficiently. Who couldn't use a mental boost at work to improve their performance?

Self-Esteem

Having a positive self-image is important in the work environment. You need to believe in your ability to handle responsibility and get the job done. Regular exercise contributes to your self-esteem. Feeling good about yourself is never a bad thing.

Fatigue

Have you ever felt tired after spending a few hours at work? When you have low energy, you aren't going to be very productive. Fortunately, regular exercise has been shown to reduce fatigue. Furthermore, getting active when you feel tired at work is the perfect antidote to weariness; a walk break will work wonders.

Stress Reduction

Let's face it, work can be stressful. The pressure of high achievement takes its toll on all of us at some point. Luckily, regular exercise helps to reduce stress. If you can successfully manage work strain, you will perform at a more optimal level.

The benefits of exercise on your career cannot be overstated. It is important you prioritize your workouts in the same manner as you emphasize your work. So next time you are feeling sluggish on the job, create time for some physical activity. Your body and mind will thank you.
